EVERYONE remembers their first pantomime - and American social media star Kalani Ghost Hunter’s first experience was at the Barnsley Civic last weekend.
Kalani Smith has accrued almost five million followers across Facebook, TikTok and Instagram where he visits towns and cities across the UK testing out what they have to offer.
And last weekend it was Barnsley’s turn - and he had quite the tour guide in former Rate My Takeaway star Danny Malin.
He tried out a huge Yorkshire pudding at Cannon Hall before heading to Barnsley Civic for their pantomime Sleeping Beauty.
He told the Chronicle he loved his time in the town.
Kalani said: “I had an awesome time in Barnsley.
“The folks there have always been so kind to me any time I’ve passed through.
“I’m good friends with Danny and he’s a Barnsley lad so he took me to Cannon Hall Farm and we had a wonderful Christmas time.
“But apart from the people, the food was great and I love gravy - and you’re not going to go to Yorkshire and not be served gravy with pretty much anything your order.
“It just goes hand in hand.”
He’s adamant he’ll return in the future - especially after watching his first pantomime.
He added: “I had to explain to my dad, who isn’t as well versed in the British humour and slang as I am, what Nanny Fanny actually meant.
“He thought it was absolutely incredible.
“The level of humour, the innuendoes, the slang and the fact that kids can enjoy it without really knowing what’s being said is hilarious to me.
“I feel like it’s something that I would enjoy doing if I lived here every year.
“Barnsley was a great stop and we’ll be back in the future.”
