CORY Sagar was delighted to maintain his unbeaten record on the biggest stage of his career so far.

The 21-year-old from Worsbrough Common beat Leeds journeyman Joe Hardy over four rounds at the First Direct Arena on Saturday.

He was given a 39-37 win in the middleweight contest before watching fellow Barnsley men Jake Jon Cleary and Callum Simpson also fight.

Cory said: “It was a really good buzz – big stage, big performance. I think I boxed smart and clean.

“I could have done a bit more, but the main objective was just to keep it clean, smart boxing, and get a big win on a big stage, and that’s what I’ve done.

“I know he had a big wild backhand, and I think I was rolling under that lovely, and making him miss.

“He was a good strong kid.

“When you think of a typical journeyman, you know, they can turn it on whenever they want.

“The atmosphere was amazing.

“I couldn’t ask for a better support from the Barnsley fans, my fans, Callum’s fans and Jake’s.

“Thank you very much for coming.”

Sagar made his professional debut at the start of 2025.

“It’s my first season as a pro, I have won five out of five. I will be back out on March 28 at Magna, hopefully. Even before then maybe at Barnsley Metrodome, so we’ll just wait and see what happens.

“Hopefully I can be on some more big shows in the future.”
