HEAD coach Conor Hourihane says he has no issue with fans booing him following a string of poor results - but he's urging them to stick with him and the team heading into the new year.

Barnsley have lost their last three League One games - 3-0 at Exeter on December 20, 3-2 to Mansfield on Boxing Day and 2-0 at home to Lincoln on Monday night.

The players and Hourihane himself were booed by fans following both games at Oakwell - and he says that no one wants to win a game of football more than he does.

He said: "They want to see us winning games of football more regularly.

"I want to see it more than anyone.

"We're not quite there at the minute.

"I'm on about as a football club as well.

"Are we that powerhouse that we used to be at this level once more? Probably not, if I'm honest.

"It’s going to take a little bit of time and people need to realise that.

"I'll always give a round of applause for their appreciation because they pay money to be here and be here to support us, whether it's home or away."

Asked whether or not fans' reaction affects him and his players, he added: "I’ll always respect our connection and applaud and thank them – win, lose or draw.

“People can say whatever they want at me – it’s part of the territory.

“It’s part of the job and it’s no problem whatsoever.

“They pay money to be here and to support us and if some clap back and some give abuse back then it is what it is.

“When things are going great it’s all lovely and people will clap you.

“When things are not going well and people are booing you, you’ve got to take that as a player.

“You’ve just got to keep ding the right things constantly and I guarantee in the next weeks they’ll be applauding you off because you’ve won a game of football.

“That’s why I’m never too high, never too low because I know around the corner it can be great and it can also be bad.”
