GREEN Party leader Zack Polanski’s visit to the town later this month shows there is ‘hope’ for Barnsley, according to two local candidates.

The visit to Emmanuel Methodist Church, at 12.30pm on January 17, will feature a short address from Zack, followed by time for conversation, photos and informal discussion with attendees.

He is currently the only major party leader to confirm he will be coming to the borough before the local elections.

The visit comes during a period of growing Green Party activity in Barnsley, with local members championing safer roads, stronger communities and a more inclusive borough.

Katrina Tia Charles, a candidate for Central ward, said: “It’s a really positive start to the year for us, having our sustainability swap-shop at St George’s Church tomorrow and then a visit from our party leader on January 17.

“With so much happening on the political landscape both nationally and locally, rallying together and reminding people of what hope feels like, is a really important way to kick off January.”

Kab Nepal, who is set to stand in May’s elections in the Darton West ward, added: “It’s fantastic that we get the chance to bring in the New Year with a message of hope from Zack.

“We’ve got important ‘all-out’ council elections in Barnsley this year, meaning no further elections for four years after all 63 are voted in.

“Zack’s visit really lets the people of Barnsley know how much the Greens can do for them and, why a Green vote this May means an inclusive community and a party that will champion issues that matter to you.”
