OLIVER Rowland made it two podium finishes from two in the Formula E season with third in Mexico City.

The 32-year-old from Penistone has made a positive start to his defence of the title he won for the first time last season.

He qualified in eighth and moved up the fielding using an early ‘attack mode’ – a strategic power boost which all drivers can use.

He was forced onto the grass by another car then a yellow flag meant all cars had to slow down, meaning he missed out on a minute of extra speed.

But Rowland recovered to overtake on the final lap and finish third.

That follows a second-placed finish in the opening race in Brazil last month.

That leaves him on 34 points in the drivers’ standings, six points off top in third place.

Rowland said: “I’m happy with the result and to be back on the podium in Mexico City.

“It wasn’t a straightforward day, the field was very closely-matched in both qualifying and the race.

“I was one of the first to take attack mode, and lost positions after being forced on the grass just before the full course yellow.

“We were really efficient, which allowed me to keep energy in reserve and attack at the end to move back up the order. We’ve got a great foundation to build on for the season and we’ll keep pushing in the right direction.”
