A PENISTONE churchgoer is committing to a charity swim in celebration of a milestone birthday.

Although she’s always been an avid swimmer, Amy Roe has been frequenting the pool less often over the last few years - but that will soon change.

Amy has pledged to swim 50 miles for charity in celebration of her 50th birthday.

The 50 miles equates to approximately 3,218 lengths of a 25-metre pool - meaning she will have to average 111 lengths per week to reach her goal in time for her birthday on July 24.

Amy is completing the mammoth task in aid of both St John’s Church’s roof fund and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Two Just Giving pages have been created to support the causes, for which Amy hopes to raise £1,000 for each.
