Barnsley have signed Scott Banks on loan from German club St Pauli until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old Scottish right-winger was on loan at Barnsley’s League One rivals Blackpool for the first half of the campaign but that deal has been cancelled.

Banks began his career at Dundee United but was sold to Premier League Crystal Palace as an 18-year-old. He never played a league game for the Eagles, being loaned to various clubs including Bradford City, before moving permanently to Hamburg club St Pauli in 2023 and helping them reach the top flight.

He played 12 times, all off the bench, in the Bundesliga last season, then was loaned to Blackpool last summer where he has also mainly been a substitute – starting twice in the league and scoring once, plus four cup goals. His most recent appearance was off the bench in a 2-1 loss at Oakwell on January 17.
