CONOR Hourihane hopes the fans who made the long trip to Cardiff City to watch Barnsley lose 4-0 in midweek will be repaid over the two upcoming home games.

About 300 away supporters were in the Welsh capital on Tuesday to witness what Hourihane said was the toughest game he has had as a head coach so far.

His side now host Stevenage on Saturday and Northampton Town on Tuesday.

Hourihane told the Chronicle: “It’s a long journey and it’s not easy.

“You will always get some hugely passionate fans at this football club that will travel around every single mile of the country to follow the club that they love.

“They’ll have seen better nights than that and worse nights than that. Hopefully over the next couple of home games we repay them with good performances.”

Barnsley have collected just 17 points from as many games since September.

Asked for his thoughts on that record, Hourihane told the Chronicle: “We need to get better, for sure.

“We need to get to a place where we’re playing better.

“We’re just getting through games at the minute and the last four have shown that.

“We need to get back to where we were earlier in the season and if we do that we will pick up points, for sure.”
