TRIBUTES have been paid to Rotherham United stadium director and Silkstone man Terry Stewart following his death.
Following a long battle with illness, Terry died earlier this week aged 80.
A Rotherham United spokesperson said: “Terry had a burning passion for all things Rotherham United and was heavily involved in operations when the club moved to our now current home at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
“A former salesman at ASD Lighting, he was an incredibly personable and sociable individual, who always found time to speak with staff around the club and did so in a manner that brightened the mood of whichever room he was in.
“Terry’s enthusiasm had no bounds when it came to following the Millers.
“He was a regular at every match he could attend with his love of supporting the team no more in evidence than in recent times, when his lengthy battle with a number of debilitating health issues made that significantly more challenging, but he still found ways to make the trip.
Beyond that, he took immense pride in being a part of our annual team photo calls at the stadium where his quick wit and friendly demeanour endeared him to everyone he met over the years and helped him to establish positive relationships with both playing and coaching staff.
“Terry’s relationship with Tony was as you would expect of twin brothers and was built on competition - which stretched back to their achievements in athletics in their youth - but always underpinned by a love and support that has meant they have always been there for one another throughout the difficult moments that life presented them with.
“It goes without saying that everyone at the club sends their love and condolences to Tony, his brothers Mick and Bob, his sisters Katherine and Jeanette and all of Terry’s family and the many friends he made throughout his life.”
