A TALENTED teenager has bagged a Young Champions nomination for her sporting prowess.
It’s undeniable that Neve Fisher, 16, from Carlton, has a knack for sports.
In her younger years, Neve was initially a gymnast but decided to pick up football, aged ten.
The hard-working youngster didn’t let her lack of experience interfere with her new dream - first attending a trial for Barnsley FC Ladies’ under-tens at Carlton Park having never played before.
She was initially in Barnsley’s B team, but the side was relegated before they returned the following year, winning the division and earning another promotion.
Neve’s improved skills led to her being transferred to the A team the year after at under-13 level.
The team played in the top division, won all 18 games and won the cup to cap off the season.
At the end of the season presentation evening, Neve won several accolades including manager’s player of the year, parents’ player of the year and players’ player of the year.
After that, Neve started playing for Barnsley Schoolgirls’ under-14 side, where she was named captain.
After seeing the youngster’s skills sharpen, her coach put her name forward for Sheffield United.
After six trials for the under-14s, Neve was delighted to be offered a one-year contract, playing at academy level.
She was subsequently offered a two-year contract, which took her through to last season for the under 16s team.
Neve currently plays for Sheffield United under-21s, where she has been called up to play for Scotland under-17s.
She qualifies through her grandad Bill, who was born in Scotland.
In October, Neve flew to Poland to face England, Montenegro and Poland in the European Championship qualifiers.
Neve’s proud dad, Scott, said: “I am incredibly proud of her Young Champions nomination - as I know how hard she has worked to achieve what she has so far.
“From not being able to kick a ball aged ten, to her being involved in the first team and international football at 16 shows her dedication and attitude to succeed.”
