A MOVE to the Championship this January transfer window would have been ‘too early’ for Reyes Cleary says Conor Hourihane who believes the winger ‘needs this last half of the season before considering moving on.’
Barnsley rejected bids for the 21-year-old winger of up to £3million, the Chronicle understands. He is the joint top assist-maker in League One with eight and also has five goals.
Head coach Hourihane told the Chronicle: “I’m pleased to keep Reyes.
“In my opinion, Reyes needs this last half of the season before considering moving on.
“I think the Championship would have been too early for him. I think it would have been really tough for him.
“I think he’s still learning.
“You see maybe positions out of possession that he can take up a little bit better and he needs to learn that.
“I think he can learn that here and, over the next three or four months, he’ll become stronger for that.
“Then he’ll become a better overall player before maybe potentially moving on.”
