A CELEBRITY hairdresser from Barnsley has summited Kilimanjaro - raising more than £100,000 for charity.

Andrew Barton’s world is far different to his childhood, swapping his life in Royston for a glamorous and award-winning career in hairdressing.

Some of the hairdresser’s notable clients include Cindy Crawford, Elle Macpherson and Tom Cruise - with his talents leaving stars fighting for appointments.

However, Andrew temporarily put down his scissors to take part in a deeply personal journey, all in the support of charity.

On February 8, Andrew successfully reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak.

Standing at 5,895 metres, the daunting expedition was undertaken to raise funds and awareness for Kidscape.

Andrew has been an ambassador for the anti-bullying charity for more than a decade.

He was joined by a team of 40 volunteers, who braved extreme altitudes, sub-zero night temperatures and intense physical exhaustion.

Andrew said: “Bullying can leave lasting scars.

“Climbing Kilimanjaro was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done but it pales in comparison to what some children go through every single day.

“I climbed my own personal mountains as a bullied child and I’m thrilled that we as a group have raised over £100,000 for Kidscape.

“If this challenge helps even one child feel seen and supported, it was worth every step.”
