Conor Hourihane was relieved to end Barnsley’s eight-game wait for an away league win.
The 3-1 success at Leyton Orient on Saturday was their first since they won at Doncaster in November.
The head coach told the Chronicle: “It’s been a while. I think we've been close on a few occasions.
“Reading, we could have won there. Wigan, we could have won there.
“I think people have been questioning a little bit about us recently but we put in a real proper performance away from home in terms of mentality and heart.”
About 600 Barnsley fans travelled to Leyton Orient for a 12.30pm kick-off.
Hourihane said: “Amazing. Credit to them.
“They were really behind us. Where we are in the league, kind of mid-table, and a half 12 kick-off.
“They didn't need to come down. But a big thanks to them, because I thought they were fantastic.
“It makes it all worth while when you get that result at the end.”
