BARNSLEY Ladies won 26-24 at Lichfield in Championship North One.

Jess Taylor-Roberts scored two tries and kicked a conversion while Alix Taylor-Roberts added two conversions.

Ellie Erskine and Becky Patrick scored the other tries. The score was 19-19 but Barnsley scored a converted try then Lichfield also touched down but missed the kick to draw level.

The Shaw Laners are now eighth in the ten-team table, 12 points clear of the bottom two which they cannot finish in, after winning their last two.

They have four games left, starting at second-placed Sale on Saturday.

Barnsley’s men suffered a fourth straight defeat in Yorkshire Division Three as they lost 25-19 at Burley.

They slipped down to eighth with 28 points from 15 games, 12 points clear of last place.

They have five games left, starting on Saturday at home to Hornsea who are one place behind them.

Wortley lost 64-7 at Sheffield Medicals in Yorkshire Division Four.

Meanwhile, Wath are in a straight shoot-out with Dinnington to become Yorkshire Division One champions.

Wath bludgeoned third-placed Yarnbury practically out of the race with a bonus point 40-26 away win last weekend.

It means they and Dinnington are both on 70 points and 18 points clear of third with six games each left to play.

Wath were wrong-footed by Yarnbury’s strong start and found themselves 14 points down.

Fly-half Jack Whitlam got Wath going with a clever dummy as he skipped over but then missed the conversion. He then fed centre Harry Hermitage to score Wath’s second and added the extras.

Winger Ben Cairns put Wath in front early in the second half and Whitlam extended the lead with the conversion.

Wath’s forwards came to the fore to extend the lead with James Thompson and Brandon Coult both barrelling over the whitewash.

The visitors could even afford to go down to 13 men for a period.

Talismanic player-coach Ryan Burrows silenced any resistance and the home crowd when he burst through for Wath’s final try to secure the victory.

Rory Anderson was given a late red card for a high tackle.

Wath are on the road again on Saturday with a trip to bottom-side Leodiensians. Wath have won their last 12 games.
