BARNSLEY made a loss of £6.6 million in the year up to June 2025, their latest accounts reveal.
The loss is more than double that of the £2.8million in the previous set of accounts.
The operating loss was just under £6.3million, down from £9.6million on the previous year, but the lack of major player sales meant the club lost more overall.
Turnover increased by 15 per cent to £10.3million as matchday revenue was up by £800,000 mainly due to the EFL Cup tie at Manchester United, while there was an increase of half a million in TV money plus sponsorship and advertising income was up 32 per cent.
But they spent £171,000 net on player trading compared to making £6.8million the previous year.
The only significant sale was Callum Styles compared to the larger transfer fees of Mads Andersen and Liam Kitching the previous year.
The owners put in £5.4m, up from £4.2m in 2024, while operating costs were down by £2m to £16.6million.
The club spent 111 per cent of its revenue on wages, down from 125 per cent the previous year.
Season ticket numbers reduced from 9,627 to 9,054.
The report states: “The playing budget available for the first team was sufficient to be in a competitive position for a top six finish.
“The final points tally of 61 was therefore disappointingly 17 points below the sixth placed team.”
