CORY Sagar will look to continue his unbeaten record as a professional at Magna Centre in Rotherham on Saturday.

The 21-year-old from Worsbrough has won all five pro outings so far on points.

The middleweight is due to face Welsh journeyman Steve Davies.

Cory said: “I will be happy to make it six wins this weekend with a big performance then maybe have another two fights this year before upping it to six and eight-rounders. It’s looking good.

“I have been talking to my managers about putting our own shows on in Barnsley at the end of 2027 and the beginning of 2028 for a Central Area or English title.

“I can see from every fight I am in, more fans come each time.

“I am selling about 140 tickets each fight now and slowly building.

“It’s great.

“It’s good to see Barnsley on the boxing map with me and Callum Simpson and Jake Jon Cleary and some other people.”

Cory’s last bout was on the undercard of Simpson’s fight at Leeds Arena in December.

“It was a great performance in Leeds and I still have a good buzz from that.

“I am back onto the small hall shows again but you just build your way back up to big shows and graft hard as always.”

Davies, 34, has lost 17 and won one of his 18 fights.

Sagar said: “I don’t know much about him to be honest.

“I just get told who I am fighting then you get in the ring and do what you need to do to win.

“From the clips I’ve seen, he likes to come in with his head and he’s a little bit dirty.

“But you adapt to that and just work with what you’ve got and do enough to win.”

Cory has teamed up with one of his sponsors, Twenty Two Six barber shop in Mapplewell, to raise money for Barnsley Hospital’s neonatal unit.

Through a raffle, they plan to buy some ergonomic cushions to help babies sleep.

He said: “Someone I know works on that unit and she told me about it.

“We’ve raised about £200.

“I did a raffle to win two tickets and everything we got from it went straight towards the unit. I get two extra people supporting me and I donate to Barnsley Hospital at the same time.”

Meanwhile, Darfield’s Jonson Hughes received a bye in the latest round of the Senior ABA Championships and is due to fight in the Yorkshire final this weekend in Bridlington.
