HEAD coach Conor Hourihane said he was 'delighted' his Barnsley side rescued a point in a 'gritty' performance away at Burton Albion.
Trailing to Charlie Webster’s strike on the hour mark it was left to Barnsley’s leading marksman David McGoldrick to secure a fourth draw in five games as their winless run continues.
Hourihane said: "It was gritty, dogged, not the prettiest of games at all.
"The pitch was really poor, dry and we knew that coming here.
"Bradford have lost here recently, Stockport have lost here recently and we had to play a little bit different because the way we like to play at times, we knew it would be really difficult to do it.
"So we had to go a little bit more direct, use the experience that we had on the pitch.
"We obviously lost our two centre halves through poor challenges in my opinion.
"We grinded it out and over the balance of play there wasn't much in the game and I felt like we deserved something from the game.
"I'm delighted that they've got something from the game because they put a lot into that."
Owen Goodman and Corey O'Keeffe were both left out of the squad.
Hourihane said: " Owen Goodman was meant to play today, but he rang this morning saying he was really unwell and struggling with illness.
"Corey O'Keeffe has just picked up a little bit of a groin/hip injury over the international break and today came a little bit too soon."
Hourihane praised McGoldrick after he scored his 15th goal of the season.
He added: "I thought he was outstanding.
"Marc Roberts, who headed the ball across was like a man possessed when he come on."
