A three storey building will remain on the site of Wombwell High after it is demolished because of mobile phone masts on the roof.

The two 13-metre tall Macrocell masts, which belong to phone operator Orange, have been on top of the school's D block, also known as the science block, for about 20 years and cannot be removed until an alternative site is found.

A planning application for the demolition of the former school site has been submitted to the council by construction company Laing O'Rourke which built the new Netherwood school.

The school merged Wombwell High and Darfield Foulstone schools earlier this year in a new building on the former Darfield Main colliery and the sites of the two schools are to be sold.
