An electrician who overcame cancer as a child has been named runner up of an 'achievement in the face of adversity' award.

Joe Dryden, 21, of Grosvenor Walk, Dodworth, suffered from Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma as a child.

He was nominated in the South Yorkshire Construction Training Group Ltd's award by his employer All in One Group Ltd, of Mapplewell.

Joe was about five when he fell ill while on holiday with his family in Tenerife.

He underwent intensive treatment, and was put on a trial programme of medication.

He still has annual checks at Sheffield Children's Hospital and probably will do so for the rest of his life.
