BARNSLEY Community Gymnastics Academy has received a welcome boost thanks to a £5,000 donation.

Penistone Masonic Lodge made the donation which will support supporting the club’s continued development and investment in facilities for local young people.

Representatives from the lodge, Worshipful Brothers Paul Schofield and Graham Fish recently visited the academy’s Carlton-based gymnasium to present the donation and meet staff and gymnasts.

The funding will contribute towards improvements within the gym, including a full competition ring set, helping to create an even better training environment for the academy’s growing membership.

The academy, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, now supports over 700 children from across the local area, providing opportunities for all abilities to get involved in the sport.

The academy’s CEO Vasiliki Scurfield welcomed the donation and its impact on the club’s future.

She said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Penistone Masonic Lodge for their generous support.

“As a community-focused club, funding like this makes a real difference, allowing us to continue improving our facilities and provide the best possible environment for our gymnasts.
