BOTH the Oxspring Trunce and South Yorkshire Road League got underway for 2026 with Barnsley club runners enjoying success.
At the first Trunce, Penistone Footpath Runner Richard Cottam won in 27-22, with George Parr finishing sixth in 29-03.
Philip Shaw was first in the men’s over60 category in 34-17.
Hannah Shaw was the club’s first woman home in 34-30. In the junior race, Edward Holley came third in 14-19.
Barnsley Harrier Harrison Fordham was first back for the club, with Lisa Clarkson first female Harrier.
There were PBs for Ryan Senior and Paul Wheatley.
The South Yorkshire Road League started in Elsecar.
A last-minute course tweak due to temporary traffic lights on the main road meant the usual five-mile distance was reduced to just over 7km.
First back for Barnsley AC was Phil Montgomery in 15th position with a time of 24-46.
Ruby Sunman was first woman overall in a time of 26-13. Sam Thompson (28-06) and Lindsay Copley (47-04) made their debuts for Barnsley AC.
Harrier Fiona Davies was third woman overall and first over50 woman.
Penistone’s Flynn Rogers was first home for the club in 20th place in 25-07 and Jade Crosby led the Penistone women in 29-28.
Rogers also impressed at the Battersea Topflight 5k, finishing third overall in a time of 16-59 and taking first place in the under 18 category in a high-quality field.
Heather Simpson ran 50-03 at the Battersea Park 10k to finish 143rd overall and second in the women’s over50 category.
Penistone’s Graihagh Turner did the double at the Isle of Man Easter Festival of Running against strong senior competition.
In Saturday’s Peel Hill Race, run in some of the windiest conditions in the event’s history, she finished ninth in the women’s race and was first under 18 in a field of 164. She followed that up on Sunday in the festival 5k, finishing 16th in the women’s race and again first under 18 from 212 finishers.
Her mother Helen Turner also took on Sunday’s 5k, finishing 148th in 26-15.
Barnsley AC’s Vicky Shaw was first woman at Helmsley 10k in a time of 42-59. Mark Wood improved his time from last year with 44-20. Bert Beaumont was first over80 in 59-53.
Penistone’s Damian Kilpin finished 22nd overall in 41-26, while Nichola McNally ran 45-00 to place 56th and take first place in the women’s over55 category.
Keith Gordon was the only Penistone runner at the Halifax 10k, finishing 527th in 57-01 and placing second in the men’s over75 category.
