A MONTH-LONG operation targeting criminal gangs involved in organised immigration crime and drug supply in Barnsley has resulted in arrests, drug busts and valuable intelligence gathered.

Operation Mille is a nationwide operation which sees police forces across the country coordinate search warrants with the aim of unearthing and disrupting organised crime groups (OCGs) and their illegal revenue streams.

Officers discovered approximately 1,000 boxes of class C drugs at a property on Raley Street, in the town centre, alongside a haul of counterfeit goods which is estimated to be worth around £50,000.

A 65-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Cartwright said: “We know OCGs profit from drug cultivations and are responsible for facilitating illegal migration into the UK.

“It is vital we carry out disruption activity to limit criminals’ abilities to exploit vulnerable people and pump harmful substances onto our streets.

“This operation has seen results and was supported greatly by our local communities.

“Our ability to secure and execute drugs warrants relies on the vital intelligence we can gather on potential criminality.

“If you suspect that there is illicit activity taking place at a property or business near you, please report it to us.

“A crucial part of this activity is visiting local businesses that may be connected to illegal working.

“It is essential that we take action against businesses used as covers for criminality, as well as showing legitimate premises that we are targeting these illicit operations.”

Class A drugs such as cocaine and heroin with a value of £60,000 have been removed from the streets recently, as well as thousands in cash seized by officers who’ve split up 12 identified drug lines.

Superintendent Mark James told the Chronicle: “This has been a huge result for the police and our work has really stepped up to dismantle drug lines.

“We’ve had success across the borough, but the recent work through Operation Mille just showed what can be done.

“A thousand boxes of class C drugs were seized, which is a massive indentation in the supply chain.

“Our work will continue and the proactive approach will show dealers that we’re very much on to their scent.

“These aren’t upstanding, law-abiding people and there will be no tolerance for drug dealing in Barnsley.

“Many arrests have been made in 2026 already, with dealers awaiting sentencing.

“If the public have any information, this can be used to help our enquiries and every piece of intel is very much appreciated.”
