MORE than a dozen homes in Kendray are set to have the energy efficiency in their homes improved.

A total of 14 Berneslai Homes properties on Gilbert Grove will see improvements.

In partnership with Sustainable Building Services, since December Berneslai Homes have been completing loft insulation and ventilation works, followed by external wall insulation this year.

The aim is to bring these homes up to EPC C, boosting their energy efficiency and helping tenants to save money on their utility bills.

Under current government policy for England and Wales, private rental properties must reach a minimum EPC rating of C by October 2030.

While previous proposals had earlier deadlines, the government updated the timeline to a single 2030 deadline for all tenancies as part of its Warm Homes Plan.

Local authorities do have their own personal deadlines, however.

It comes following the Decent Homes Capital Investment Programme was put forward by Berneslai Homes which sets out a package of improvements designed to help reach the target of achieving 100 per cent decent homes compliance across the 18,000-strong housing stock during 2026/2027.

Chair of the Berneslai Homes board Ken Taylor said: “Walking along Gilbert Grove and talking with our customers reinforced how vital it is to listen to their views and concerns in order for us to achieve excellent results when improving homes.

“It was great to hear them say how they felt their needs had been taken notice of throughout the improvements to their homes.

“In turn, that they were already feeling the heating benefits of having the external wall insulation.

“It was also great to hear the appreciation from our more elderly and vulnerable customers around the care that had been taken by the Berneslai Homes team throughout the work.”
