An upcoming Barnsley darts star is celebrating after claiming three titles within a month.

Josiah Murray nicknamed ‘Jo The Throw’ was crowned South Yorkshire Darts Under 16 champion after victory in the final at Darfield Conservative Club earlier this month. He was undefeated throughout the night and claimed a 3-1 victory in the final, which was officiated by professional darts referee Paul Hinks.

Jo, 14, had already topped the Hoyland club’s Premier League, and a super series a few weeks earlier.

The Barnsley season ticket holder started playing darts about a year ago and practices for at least two hours a day.

“Winning the league was the best feeling of my life, I was so nervous as it was the first time playing on a main stage in front of a crowd,” he told the Chronicle.

“It’s early days but I’m getting better and just want to keep enjoying the games and hopefully get more trophies. I’ve got a ‘Jo The Throw’ shirt now and people always smile at the name my dad came up with it one day and it’s just stuck.”

Proud grandad Pete, of Pogmoor, is his biggest fan, accompanying him to every game.

“He’s got a natural talent but works hard too I think I get more nervous than him at the games. Hopefully Jo will progress and can get onto a bigger stage and do Barnsley proud.”
