THERE was a healthy turn-out of Barnsley club runners at the Rob Burrow Marathon in Leeds with club records and personal bests smashed.

Barnsley Harriers Alan Bowers, Paula Mills, and John Moss took part.

Alan went under the four-hour mark, John completed the distance for the second time within a month, and Paula was first over60 woman, breaking a club record for the distance, and beating her course PB by nine minutes.

Both Harriers teams finished the seven-stage relay in less than five hours.

Barnsley AC’s Gemma Thickett finished as 13th woman and knocked nearly 20 minutes off her marathon PB with 3-16-55. In the half marathon, Nigel Morton ran 1-46-36.

Penistone Footpath Runner Carl Matthewman finished in 4-56-56.

Penistone’s Steve Sanders took on the Transvulcania Ultramarathon in La Palma, Canary Islands.

The race is 45 miles including more than 14,000 feet of ascent across volcanic ridges and through pine forests.

Steve finished 756th in 14 hours and 43 minutes.

Also covering a mammoth distance was Penistone’s Joanne Boreham who participated in ‘The Lap’, navigating around Lake Windermere in the Lake District.

Joanne finished the 47-mile route with 8,530 feet of climbing in 15 hours and 43 minutes.

Penistone’s Brent Carlin and Dave Lovatt took on the Bradwell Half – a 17.5 mile-race taking in Cave Dale, Win Hill and Lose Hill in the Peak District.

Brent was fourth overall in 2-54-16 while Dave finished 12th in 3-35-02.

At the Ripon ten-mile race, Penistone’s Richard Cottam stormed home in one hour and 45 seconds to take fourth place, followed by club-mates Martin Ball, Lee Storey and Kim Rogers.

Penistone’s George Parr, Damian Kilpin and Martyn Goodwin competed in the Coiners Fell Race near Hebden Bridge.

George finished fourth in 54-27, while Damian was 12th and Martyn 67th.

Penistone’s Michael Nicholson ran a time of 1-41-11 in the Great Bristol Half Marathon.

At the Maltby memorial race, Penistone’s Ian Neville was the first over60 man, while Susie Braddock was first over60 woman.

Barnsley AC’s Chris McNicholas finished second over60 man in a course PB of 27-30. Faye Lund finished in 35-26.

Nichola McNally was the sole Penistone runner at the hilly Holymoorside 10k, finishing 35th in 45-26.

The Loxley Lash 5k series is held at Forge Valley School’s cycle track.

Barnsley AC’s Kenny Hunter finished first over55 man in 18-58 while Dave Allemby was second over65 man in 28-16.

Barnsley AC’s Lee Yoxall ran a PB of 18-07 at May’s York 5k.

At Beverley 10k, Barnsley AC’s Gareth Cooke finished eighth overall in 33-29 while Chris McNicholas was second over65 man in 39-00.

Barnsley Harrier Georgi Newton ran the Legging it for the Library Race in Wakefield with a time of 35-20.

Barnsley Harrier Richard Spooner ran the final day of the Brathay 10 in 10, completing the Windermere Marathon in a course PB of 2-56.
