New Road in Pilley became so badly flooded over the weekend several vehicles became stuck and had to be towed out of the deluge.
It is one of the main roads into the village and the Chronicle understands New Road started to flood at about 11pm on Saturday following a heavy downfall that evening.
Resident Helen Whitehouse said several cars and a van attempted to drive through the standing water, but became stranded and had to be towed out.
She said: "It's quite impressive really and gets really deep in the middle where the road dips a bit.
"As far as I know a van and a jeep got stuck and a few smaller cars as well. The buses couldn't get through either.
"On Saturday night I was coming home after a night out around Barnsley town centre and my taxi couldn't make it through so I ended up having to walk around it."
On Saturday and Sunday Darton residents braced themselves for more flooding as the river Dearne levels rose.
The Environment Agency issued a flood warning for the village on Church Street, Church Close, Mill Lane, Barnsley Road and Dearne Hall Lane and Low Barugh, which is no longer in force.
