LOCALS came together on Saturday to raise £1,500 for Gaza at a special rally.
Barnsley Palestine Solidarity Campaign (BPSC) held its sixth fundraiser for the wartorn region on Saturday afternoon.
Members have been active hosting similar events since open hostilities began in October 2023.
Marie Abu Quaod, one of the members of the group, said: “As always the atmosphere was one of unity and selflessness as we all came together to help people in great need.
“Some attendees were there for the first time, wishing to help in any way that they could.
“I opened the event by reminding the congregation that Gaza is still suffering from missile attacks as well as lack of food, water and shelter.
“Another speaker emphasised the need for community amongst Palestinians in the diaspora and the importance of keeping their plight in the spotlight.
“The auction provided jovial entertainment and attendees gave generously for the items on offer.
“As usual, the Palestinian food was enjoyed by all with some saying that it was the best food they had ever had.
“Our popular ‘grab a bargain’ stall was overflowing with donated items from kind-hearted Barnsley people and most of these were bought too.
“At the end of the day, we were pleased to have raised £1,500.
“BPSC would like to thank all involved with the event.
“We will be holding another event in the late summer.”
