BARNSLEY’S Patrick Kelly netted his first international goal for Northern Ireland against World Cup favourites France on Monday.
The 21-year-old made it 2-1 in a 3-1 loss in a friendly in Lille against a home side who fielded the likes of Michael Olise, who scored a hat-trick, Kylian Mbappe and Desire Doue.
Kelly is already thought to be of interest to other clubs and that is likely to have increased after this excellent performance in which he came close to another goal.
Kelly arrived on a free transfer last summer from West Ham United and has three years left on his contract including a club option.
He netted three goals and added six assists for the Reds.
Kelly said: "I have been working towards something like that my whole life.
"My family will be really proud. Unfortunately none of them were here but my dad owns the bar in Portstewart called the Portstewart Arms. I think the match was on and all my family and friends were there and they all celebrated."
