BARNSLEY Council’s new planning board will meet for the first time this week.

Wombwell councillor Theresa Arnold is the new chair of the board, which comprises 11 Reform members, three Labour, two Lib Dems and one independent councillor.

The main item on the agenda seeks approval for the installation of a five-metre-high galvanised sculpture between Woodbine Cottage and Holly Grove Roundabout in Goldthorpe.

The plans have been submitted by the council and have been earmarked for approval ahead of Tuesday’s meeting.

A report states: “This application has been amended since it was originally submitted.

“The original scheme proposed the sculpture to be erected on the roundabout rather than adjacent to the A635.

“However, due to concerns raised by the highways development control department, the scheme has been amended, and the position of the sculpture has been changed.

“In response to this, the application site boundary and development description were also amended and the application has been re-advertised.”
