OLIVER Rowland crashed out of the latest Formula E race in Sanya, China but remains second in the Championship.
The 32-year-old from Penistone made contact with a wall in the race after qualifying in tenth but taking the lead early on.
The defending champion is second, 19 points off top, after 11 of 17 races.
Rowland said: “Qualifying was disappointing and it was hard to find the pace, which has been something I’ve struggled with this season.
“But we managed to put ourselves in a good position in the race.
“We got the strategy right, I maybe over-consumed on the re-start a bit too much which left me low on energy, but we were still in a good place.
“Unfortunately, a mistake from my side meant I hit the wall, ending our race early.
“I’m mad at myself about that, but we will have to continue working and learn what we can from today ahead of the double-header in Shanghai.”
Formula E is due to return to China on the first weekend of July with a double-header in Shanghai before the season ends with two races each in Tokyo in late July then London in mid-August.
