BARNSLEY Woolley Miners will complete the first half of their season on Saturday as they look to continue their search for success in the league and cups.
The Shaw Laners are second in the SYL Championship, four points behind leaders Ackworth and ten clear in the second promotion place.
Their home game with Doncaster Town 2nd XI will mark the halfway point in the campaign. Captain Boeta Beukes said: “It’s a good place to be in. We’ve only lost two and hopefully we don’t lose many more. If we can win this weekend we’ll be really happy with the first half of the season and we can take a lot of confidence into the second half.
“We just need to stay consistent and make sure we win the tight games.”
Barnsley won by 58 runs at Shiregreen.
Ali Zaryab made 57 in Barnsley’s 174 then Boeta Beukes took five wickets and Max Heseltine three.
Beukes said: “It was a low-scoring game on a tough pitch. We lost the toss and batted first. We had a few shaky periods with the bat but Ali batted well again and Max, who hasn’t been out in the league all season, got some runs at the end. It’s the best we’ve bowled all year.
“It was a spinning pitch.”
Barnsley play Ackworth in the Twenty20 Plate on Sunday.
“Ackworth are top of our league for a reason and they are a very good Twenty20 team as well.
“They won a national cup last season. We have them in two cups two Sundays in a row.
“We’re wanting at least one cup in the trophy cabinet this year and promotion would be nice as well.”
