BARNSLEY Woolley Miners’ openers shared a stand of 213 in their home win over Doncaster Town 2nd XI in the SYL Championship with Ali Zaryab reaching 1,100 runs by the end of June.

Stand-in skipper Will Chapman made 101 off 96 balls and Zaryab scored 169 from 154 with 19 fours and four sixes.

Zaryab has already reached 1,118 runs for the season by the end of June after Saturday’s ton took him into four figures.

The Pakistani opener is averaging 93 and has scored four centuries with six half-centuries in 16 innings.

His tally of 878 Championship runs is nearly double the second highest scorer who is Tickhill’s Hernus Marais on 457.

Chapman said: “Ali is unbelievable.

“As long as he bats time, he will score a lot of runs.

“He’s really good to bat with and makes everything really straightforward.

“He talks to you a lot.”

Chapman was standing in as captain for Boeta Beukes. The 20-year-old has been at his hometown club since he was five. He said: “It’s been a fairly successful year for myself. I have two hundreds and a 50 but I could be doing a lot better.

“It was a privilege to captain the club and get a win.”
