A HUGE fundraising mission which set out to transform Barnsley Hospital’s breast care unit has been accomplished - after residents dug deep to raise more than £250,000 in less than a year.

It has united a community of supporters with people donating, fundraising and taking on challenges of all kinds to help create a brighter future for patients and families who use the essential unit.

Fundraising efforts have included last weekend’s Barnsley 10K, golf days, the Great North Run, climbing challenges, walking events, skydiving and even wing walking.

More than 7,000 patients are seen annually in the unit with a variety of symptoms including breast lumps, nipple changes and lumps in the armpit.

Jane Mills, charity development manager, said: “On behalf of Barnsley Hospital Charity, I would like to say a huge thank you to every person and organisation who has donated, fundraised, supported events or helped spread the word.

“Your kindness and commitment have turned a vision into reality and will make a real difference to patients and families for years to come.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of supporters, the appeal has not only reached its original fundraising goal but has also created the opportunity to go even further.

“The success of the appeal is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when Barnsley comes together.”
