ARE you smitten with football fever? Isn’t it lovely to feel pride in something ‘national’.

I get so sick of feeling pressured to feel ashamed of our flag, of our country. We were in desperate want to get behind something that unites us and this is exactly what we need.

Especially as we have a Barnsley lad in the squad. I do hope that Harry Kane gets a big honour because there are plenty of people who get them for far less.

Although to be honest, during the match the other day I was screaming: ‘What are you doing?’ at him in the first half, and declaring him god in the second.

I wasn’t alone, don’t tell me I wasn’t. I had joined the armchair coaches slagging off the backs and wanting to chuck the manager in jail.

Then sobbing at the end. Oh the emotions. But nothing like a good scream, a cheer, a beer and a bag of Doritos and a cheesy dip to make you glad to be English.

My mum loved the World Cup and the Euros. We’d get all the snacks in and it’s the weirdest thing but sitting on the sofa with my head facing to the telly, I could so easily imagine her sitting at my side watching along with us. And it’s nice.

Talking of football, someone sent me a fabulous pic of George Best pouring champagne into a tower of couple glasses with the biggest grin on his face and the caption reads ‘Hydration Break 1970s’.

Made us all laugh. And a photo for anyone who remembers the ‘...And where did it all go wrong, George?’ story.

Royston Animal Welfare have been offering a discounted neutering service for cats in conjunction with Churchfield Vets and there is still some money left in the pot for that.

It’s a terrific offer. I would especially like to see the people who want to adopt a little stray cat called Snowball take advantage of it.

Little mite keeps turning up at ours and we daren’t feed him/her because I want them to return to the people who want to give him a home.

Little beige soul with ginger blobs. Anyway, it’s only £30 per cat for people with a Barnsley postcode so please just get in touch with Churchfield Vets on Sackville Street.

There are too many cats and it’s not fair on them, they’re much happier without all that complication of wanting to have ‘relations’ and feeling the need to wander, so please, get your cat ‘done’. Offer not open to husbands.

Permission has been granted to get a copy of our lovely ‘Kes’ statue installed in Leicester Square in London in 2028.

But the project needs a mighty injection of cash. I’m sure we’ll get it because money flowed in for the original statue standing outside the Alhambra Centre.

It would be an amazing sight to witness, the unveiling of Barry Hines’s wonderful character and anyone who donates will be given an invitation to be there at the red carpet event. What a day for the town. If you wish to donate, however small because as we know it all mounts up, just google gofundme Billy Casper. Thank you.

Incidentally, Barnsley Council, what’s happening with the removal of those posts behind the statue?

You’ve passed us from pillar to post (excuse pun) and done NOWT about them and this has now been going on for years. YEARS.

False promises and lip service at its very best … when are you going to pull your fingers out and do what you said you would??!!
