David Perkins has moved to Barnsley in an effort to stop him getting more injuries.

The energetic midfielder strained his hamstring several times this year and has only started eight games this season. The 30-year-old hopes moving to South Yorkshire will help his latest recovery.

He said: “It was quite a big decision but I felt moving to Barnsley was best for my football career. I can spend more time at the club after training and I go to the pool every day now I’m living here which helps with my rehab. I’ve not been in the town much but you’ll find me in Puccini’s restaurant on my own reading the paper.

“It’s been very frustrating not playing as I’ve not really been injured before and it’s tough to deal with."

Perkins says all the players are united in the fight against relegation.

He said: “The mood is pretty good and no one wants to see the manager get the sack so we’ll keep fighting. Fozzy (Stephen Foster) came out and recently said that there’s no point shouting about the form. Let’s knuckle down and stop looking at league position.

“We talk a lot about stats but the best stat is to win games. How we didn’t win against Sheffield Wednesday I will never know. We’ve got to keep clean sheets, that’s what wins games. Performances aren’t too important at the moment, we need points – and quite a few of them.”
