ELSECAR closed to within four points of Barnsley Woolley Miners in the race for the second promotion place.

The teams have ten games remaining including one against each other.

Elsecar captain Callum Higgins said: “It’s good that it’s a local rival we’re competing with.

“We just want to keep breathing down Barnsley’s necks and hopefully we can catch them. We play each other but it’s quite a few weeks away so we will just see where we are when we get there.

“We got relegated two seasons ago and consolidated for a year and now we’re looking to go up. With ten games left, there is a long way to go and we have to take it one at a time. We’ll see where we’re at come the end of the season.”

Elsecar chased 116 for a five-wicket win at Doncaster Town 2nd XI who were five for nine.

Enzo Campagna – a 17-year-old who came through the club’s junior system and plays for Yorkshire’s academy – took a hat-trick and Musa Altaf four for 24.

Elsecar won by 31 runs at home to Upper Haugh in the Whitworth Cup.
