GABRIELLE Idle-Beavers won a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships in Munich, Germany this week.

The 18-year-old from Darton has been representing Great Britain against some of the best young swimmers on the continent.

She won her heat in the 50m breaststroke on Tuesday morning then, later that day, finished fifth in the semi-final but her time was quick enough to put her in Wednesday evening’s final.

She finished third, narrowly claiming a place on the podium.

Gabrielle is still due to compete in the 100m breaststroke, the women’s medley relay and potentially the mixed relay over the weekend.

She is then set to compete for England’s senior squad in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later in the month.

Gabrielle finished school at Mount Kelly College in Devon, a specialist swimming facility which she has attended since year nine.

The former Borough of Barnsley junior has been offered a place for next year at the University of Kentucky.
