We take a closer look at new Barnsley signing Makenzie Kirk.
The Portsmouth striker signed on loan for the season with Barnsley.
The 22-year-old was previously at Hearts – at the same time as Daniel Stendel – and St Johnstone, for whom he scored eight SPL goals, before joining Pompey last summer.
He netted once in 14 appearances.
Neil Allen of the Portsmouth News said: “Pompey identified him as an up and coming striker and signed him on deadline day.
“They struggled to score goals in general last season.
“Kirk scored a really well-taken goal against Coventry, chipping the goalkeeper from wide, then got a run in the team but it’s a huge jump from the level he had been playing at.
“He’s just simply not ready but they have a lot of belief in him and think that regular football in League One with Barnsley will benefit him.
“His Pompey career is not over, he just needs matches and he’s falling down the pecking order with Pompey only playing one striker.
“There is talent there.
“He runs the channels well, he is physical and hard-working and competes well.
“He’s highly-regarded at Pompey as a player and a person.
“Pompey fans will definitely be watching his progress with interest.”
