A KEEN ultra-marathon runner is taking on his biggest challenge yet this weekend as he is set to run over 200 kilometres for charity.
Kevin Mawdsley, 47, will be running both the Sheffield and Barnsley boundaries to raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity.
He will be doing the run while dressed up as Superman.
He has been an avid runner for the past two years after he found it helped while he was struggling with mental health issues.
While suffering with social anxiety and depression, Kevin quit his job at the time and started working at a gym where he discovered his love for fitness and running.
He said: “I can’t explain why but it keeps me calm.
“I put my shoes on, head out and I will not come back until I feel calm.
“It has been a real lifesaver for me.
“The people that know me, know for sure that I will not quit.
“I will be crawling to the end if I must.
“I will do whatever it takes.”
Donna Merrils, from the charity, added: “What Kev is undertaking is absolutely remarkable and we are so grateful to him for choosing to support Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
“As an independent charity, we rely on good people like Kev to help us raise the vital funds we need to keep our helicopters and crews in the air and saving lives across Yorkshire.
“He really is Superman for taking on such a huge challenge all in aid of charity.”
