Barbara Sabin poses with her father's British Empire Medal - days after being awarded one of her own.
Barbara, 73, received her BEM in the New Year's Honours List for helping the Hoyland Common branch of the Salvation Army move from a tin hut to its own £1million community hall in 2007.
"I'm getting used to it, it's a bit of a shock," she said.
Barbara, of Barrow Hill, Wentworth, has been invited to the Queen's Garden Party in 2014 and will be presented with the medal locally by the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire or by a member of the Royal Family, she says.
Her dad, Cyril Parkin, got his in 1945 for his meritorious military service overseas in the Royal Corps of Signals, but Barbara did not find out about it until after the former greengrocer died.
She still has the new year's honours list her dad is mentioned and a letter from General Montgomery, informing him.
