A PUB owner woke up to find a lorry on fire just feet away from his bedroom where his wife and baby daughter were sleeping.

It is the latest incident to hit the Dog and Partridge pub on the A628 near Flouch, which lost 22 days of business last year because of accidents on the road.

Joint owner Richard Punshon, 42, was horrified when he was awoken by his dogs last Thursday to find the driver of the wagon, on realising it was ablaze, had pulled over onto the pub frontage.

He rushed outside from his bedroom where fire fighters were already on the scene and the blaze was put out quickly.

But the incident left significant damage to the hard surface at the entrance to the car park.

Richard said: “I was woken up at 5.10am by the dogs barking, to find there was a fire four metres from the building."
