A Cudworth primary school headteacher has been shortlisted for a teaching award.
Julie Allen, leader at Birkwood Primary school, beat off competition from more than 24,000 teachers and school workers nominated for this year's Pearson awards.
She is one of only three finalists for the primary school headteacher of the year award in the North of England category.
Julie said: "I was thrilled, embarrassed and humbled to find out that I had been nominated by one of our parents."
The Pearson teaching awards are open to every school in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Categories include awards for outstanding new teacher, school team of the year and headteacher of the year.
She was put forward for the award by parent Steve Borrowdale with support from Dan Wood, Julie's deputy, and the school community.
She said: "I had a vision for our school when I was appointed as headteacher and that vision has only come to fruition thanks to the contribution from each and every member of our school and community."
Julie, who has worked at Birkwood since September 2009, has seen a number of changes since taking over as headteacher.
"There have been great improvements at the school," she said. "We've had our best Ofsted outcomes and our best results at key stage two level. I'm lucky I have a wonderful team of staff and support from the governors and parents, for which I'm very grateful."
If Julie is successful in her category, she will progress to the national finals later this year. Results for the award will be announced on May 17.
