Fire bosses have saved thousands of pounds by no longer serving tea and coffee at meetings.

 

Stopping refreshments has cut South Yorkshire Fire Service’s hospitality bill by £17,000 over two years - a saving which has been highlighted to show what it is doing to save money in an effort to protect frontline services.

 

The number of senior management posts has been reduced from 15 to 11, saving about £370,000 a year and support staff have been slashed to save more than £500,000.

 

Staff have been stopped from buying open-ended rail tickets, saving £4,500 over the last two years and up to £8,000 has been saved on cleaning by renegotiating contracts.
