The injury crisis at Oakwell has deepened with the news that Stephen Foster will miss the rest of the season with a torn calf.
The veteran centre-back picked up the injury during the 6-0 mauling at home to Charlton on Saturday and played as a loan striker after his injury because Reds manager David Flitcroft had made all his substitutions and did not want Foster's injury to cause further goals.
After the red cards for Tom Kennedy and Stephen Dawson, Flitcroft did not want to remove Foster from the field. He said: "We kept him on the pitch because I didn't want to finish with seven outfield players. The integrity of the league is at stake.
"It's a massive blow to lose Steve because his experience is invaluable."
Foster is one of several injured defenders as well as Rory Delap, Jim McNulty, Rob Edwards and Scott Golbourne. Martin Cranie is thought to be back in contention to play and the only other senior defenders available are Bobby Hassell and Scott Wiseman, although Kennedy will only serve a one-game ban.
Central midfield is another area of concern as Kelvin Etuhu is struggling with a hamstring injury and Dawson is suspended for the next three games. David Perkins is the only available central midfielder and Flitcroft is likely to ask a more attacking player like Jacob Mellis or Jim O'Brien to change position.
