Barnsley have spent the week working on the attacking side of their game after falling into an overly-defensive mindset following a series of battling away draws, says manager David Flitcroft.

The Reds could jump out of the relegation zone with a win at home to Hull City on Saturday, depending on what Wolves and Peterborough do, but if they lose and their rivals win they would need a huge swing in goal difference during their last-day trip to Huddersfield on May 4 to stay up.

Barnsley have scored just twice in their last five games, none of which have been won, and no Championship side has fewer home goals this season. While Chris O'Grady has been on decent form, his fellow strikers Jason Scotland and Chris Dagnall have both not netted in their last eight while Marlon Harewood has two goals in 32 league games this season.

"Goals are a concern at the moment," said Flitcroft. "We had three very difficult away games at Cardiff, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest and we had to be very defensive in our mindset.

"To only concede one goal in those three fixtures was commendable. But that has taken away our attacking focus and I have got to get that balance right. That's the key.

"We are defending in too many numbers. We are not a free-flowing attacking team that's going to go out and beat a team four or five nil but we play with energy and press teams and make it hard for the opposition."

Flitcroft says training has been 'absolutely brilliant' this week as several players have begun their return from injury. Rob Edwards, Kelvin Etuhu and Jim McNulty are now in full training and could play against Hull while Rory Delap is on course to feature at Huddersfield.

Flitcroft said: "It has been a great week to get some planning and detailed work done on the training ground which you can't do if you have a midweek game.

After the Charlton game (in which Tom Kennedy and Stephen Dawson were sent off and Stephen Foster was injured) I was thinking 'where do you pick a team from?' We were running low. But the tempo has gone up in training with the lads coming back. It has given me a great problem to have in terms of picking a team."
