A caring little girl from Cudworth has undergone a drastic haircut so she can donate her locks to sick children.

Alisha Crossland, four, came up with the idea after seeing pictures of poorly children on the computer with her mum Hayley.

They had been looking for photos of butterflies to make their own cards and came across the logo for the Little Princess Trust - which provides real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment or other illnesses.

"She saw a little girl who had lost her hair to cancer and she asked if she could give some of her hair to that little girl," Hayley, 28, said.

"I think real hair wigs are definitely something that are needed. The wigs that you get on the NHS are synthetic and they are miles apart - with these you can't even tell it's a wig."

Alisha, who is a pupil at Birkwood Primary School had a whole ten inches of hair snipped from her head to give to the charity.

"I thought it was a good idea to help children. I was sorry to see it cut off but it was worth it," she said.

Alisha, of Southfield Road, climbed into the chair at Rococo hair salon in Cudworth on Saturday. She is also raising money for the charity by the kind gesture.

"We're all very proud of her, she's raised about £60 so far through a collection box and her Just Giving page," Hayley added.
