A PHOTOGRAPH of members of the old Barnsley Borough Police force included in Memories several weeks ago has brought an excellent response.
At the time we had no idea why they had met at Ardsley House Hotel, but retired Detective Chief Inspector Adrian Eggleston said the function was held to mark the 20th anniversary of the abolition of the borough force.
It was organised by Chief Inspector David Helliwell and a small group of ‘borough officers.’ Master of Ceremonies was Bill Harber. A very good friend of local officers, Stan Richards (alias Seth Armstrong of Emmerdale) provided the cabaret.
“It was a great opportunity for serving and retired colleagues to get together,” said Mr Eggleston. The photograph, loaned by ex-officer Sam Heppenstall, was one of four taken that night. “The reason we had four taken was simple, there were too many of us to get on just one,” said Mr Eggleston.
