CHIP shop owner Gordon Dumbrell got a real battering when watching his beloved Barnsley FC play.
Winger Chris Shuker blasted the ball into the crowd. Gordon tried to stop the ball hitting his face, it whacked his left hand and fractured a wrist.
Gordon, 59, had travelled to Walsall to watch the Reds clinch a play-off place following a 2-1 win.
But since the match he’s been unable to drive and hasn’t worked at his shop on School Street, Darfield.
He said: “I’m getting some right stick from everyone in the village and they are telling me to put a claim in against Mr Shuker, but I wouldn’t do that to Barnsley Football Club.
“I went to the hospital the day after the match and they said I’ll have to have a pot on for a few weeks. Shuker’s a good little lad though so I suppose I forgive him.”
