Jim McNulty hopes Barnsley's appointment of a new chairman and chief executive in the last week will put an end to the 'tug of war between the board and the manager' which he says has adversely affected the players in recent seasons.
The 27-year-old defender, who is expected to sign a new one-year deal with the Reds today, has complimented the work done by outgoing general manager Don Rowing but alluded to rifts behind the scenes and says the club will benefit from a 'freshening up'.
"The club has been run so well and the budget has been managed so tightly that sometimes the manager hasn't been able to do some of the things he wants to do," McNulty told the Chronicle.
"That might be taking us away for a training camp or something else. With the new people that are coming in, I don't think that we will feel the tug of war between the board and the managers that can leak down to the players and affect us. I mean that in the mildest sense but it has happened in the past. I think now we will all be united.
"The people they have got in are the top men at doing their jobs. We would all be excited if a world class player signed for the club so of course we're going to get excited when we sign a world class chairman. The players keep tabs on what is going on and we have been really pleased. The club needed a freshening up and wholesale changes throughout.
"The manager has changed every couple of years since they have been in the Championship, but the league positions have remained the same so maybe something else needed to change. The players are all looking forward to coming back to the club and seeing how it is different."
