MORE than brows will be furrowed when farmers from around the country go head to head for Barugh’s annual ploughing competition.

The Barugh and District Ploughing Association's annual match at Mount Farm, Woolley, will attract some of the country's top ploughmen, including former world champion John Hill and former British champion Geoff Fretwell, take to the field.

Entrants are given a set of criteria to work to, and are judged on depth, width, straightness, neatness and appearance. They also have to make sure there is no stubble showing.

Promoter Janet Wordsworth said: “It’s one of the best ploughing matches in the country.” The competition starts at 1pm tomorrow.
